Technology transfer of Infragauge system to M/s Erhardt +
Leimer (India ) Limited, Ahmedabad
Thickness
or weight measurement during film extrusion is important to maintain consistent
quality along with raw material, energy savings and less recycling.
The technology of on-line non contact film thickness
measurement systems(Infragauges), developed at CEERI center, Chennai with
funding support from Department of
Science & Technology, Govt. of India, will meet the long felt need
of indian plastic industry. The sensing principle is based on the fact that
plastic packaging materials selectively absorb infrared light.
This is a novel on-line
thickness gauging system consisting of
non contact infragauge sensor and an industrial computer based
electronic unit with a high resolution graphic terminal. The system measures
double lay flat thickness of the film and it indicates average thickness of the
film at any point and any instant with an accuracy of less than a micron.
In case of multi layer co-extrusion film plants with either
oscillating platform or rotating take off,
bubble wide thickness profile along with spot and average thickness
values in microns are displayed. A stationary mounted on a C like structure
measures on the lay flat immediately after the nip roll or just after the
rotating take off.. The sensor is mounted on the edge of the lay flat tube and
hence measures double the thickness.
An industrial prototype developed at CEERI Center, Chennai with
support from Department of Science & Technology was installed in a
typical multilayer blow film
manufacturing industry namely packaging
India and successfully conducted user trials and demonstrated to various users
and equipment manufacturers.
The technical know how of Infragauge system will be
transferred to M/s Erhardt+Leimer(India) ltd, Ahmedabad for commercial
production. CEERI is expected to receive Rs.5 lakhs as technology fees from
this industry.
M/s Erhardt+Leimer(India) ltd ranks worldwide as one of the
leading manufacturers of control devices for industrial sectors such as paper,
textiles, plastics, packaging, rubber & as a specialist in system solutions
and automation technology for moving webs and belts. M/s Erhardt+Leimer(India)
ltd is entering into an agreement with CEERI for technology transfer and commercial production of infragauge
system on 23rd May 2001 at CEERI Center, Chennai, CSIR complex.
